With today's economy in such a state of crisis and so many of us losing our homes, jobs, and retirement incomes we are all looking for a way to make money. This may surprise you but there is a way to do this that has been practiced by Americans for a very long time it is panning for gold. There has been a very large reassurance of people returning to the hills and river beds to pan for gold to help bolster their income. It is interesting to learn that just a fraction of our countries gold has been mined and there is plenty more out there if you are willing to work for it. The work is hard but the reward can be big if you put the time and effort into it. In this article are a few of the steps you need to follow to find gold in them hills.
First, you need to do some homework, go on line or make some phone calls to find out where and if there is gold to be found anywhere near where you live. If it isn't that close you must decide how far you would be willing to travel. After you have found where the gold is located. You can plan your first trip to pan.
Secondly, now that you have decided where you want to go panning, you must now buy the supplies you will need. The most important tool is the gold pan. You can purchase one for $8 to $12. The pan is usually 12 to 18 inches in diameter. The depth is usually 2 to 21/2 inches and it has a slope of 30 to 45 degrees. You can purchase a pan at prospecting stores, rock shops and even some hardware stores. Older more traditional pans were made of steel, but now many prospectors prefer the newer pans that are made of plastic, because they are lighter and don't rust.
Third, now you can start panning. Fill your pan with gravel and sand, then fill your pan with water. Move your pan up and back in a sideways motion. Gold is one of the heaviest elements and it will start to migrate to the bottom of your pan. After a few minutes of gentle motion the materials in your pan will start to stratify. The heavier materials including any gold or black sand will sink to the bottom. Carefully check what is in your pan and if it appears to be gold remove it. If you are new to this make sure you mark the are where you found the gold so you can go back to the same area. Panning for gold, takes time and patience, but can be lucrative if you persevere.
